QEA photographic club

QEA photographic club begins every Monday afternoon from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Hans, the club teacher, was once a designer. He clears desks and chairs before starting to make room for students and teachers who are interested in photography.

The theme of this week is “still photography”, which means to record images for still lives. First, Hans showed and demonstrated some pictures taken by other students, as examples to introduce photographic skills from various aspects, such as angle, composition and meaning.

Then, students tried to take photos themselves. To guide them on capturing more details of the subjects, Hans brought his precious minerals. He taught how to set lights and backdrops, and how to construct a studio.

Minerals are considered the best subject to practice photography because, as natural crystalloid substances, the details that are invisible to the naked eye will be revealed by camera, and different settings will accentuate the mineral’s shape and color.

Both students and teachers spent a great time together. They learned a lot about photography: from the function of SLR camera to basic knowledge of studio construction; and experienced the fun of finding undiscovered details through camera.

The club encourages students and teachers to document the world with pictures and to catch more memorable moments in life.
