QEA alumni

QEA students visited University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM), McMaster University and University of Waterloo.

These three seniors, Will Chen, Katherine Zhu, and Icey Zou, are actually studying in these three institutions respectively. They introduced their universities to QEA students, showed them around and shared their campus experiences.

Will Chen
University of Toronto Mississauga
Computer Science

UTM attracted thousands of students around the globe every year. Majors such as business, computer science, mathematics and statistics of UTM are very popular. Will is in the college of computer science. “I’m a high-tech fan so I chose this major. Computer science is rather popular in North America, for studying this major really improve your computer skills and guarantee you a high paying job.

Will showed students canteens, library, study lounge and common room. The computer science building was renovating when students visited. Actually most teaching buildings of UTM are nearly built, welcoming students with brand new look.

Will told students that the most helpful thing he learned is time management. “You’ll face various challenges in college,” he said, “which makes it so important that you have to budget your time well so that more things can be done without interfering study.”

Katherine Zhu
McMaster University
Molecular Biology and Genetics

McMaster University is one of the best Universities in Canada and one of the few institutions in North America has nuclear reactors. According to Katherine Zhu, McMaster University uses nuclear elements in cancer researches, thus its medical science topped Canada and because of this, she decide to study in McMaster.

“I’m a student of Molecular Biology and Genetics,” said Zhu, “I really interested in advanced medical technologies. This major could help me to find more approaches through studying human cells.

As known as “Canada MIT”, McMaster University is excellent in engineering, life science and computing. This university located in Hamilton, an hour driving from Toronto. This city provided students a secure, friendly and quiet living and study environment.

Katherine told students that self-learning is critical in college. “Before classes I clearly know that I won’t understand everything. But don’t be afraid, just take notes carefully and study afterwards, you still can catch up with others.”

Zhu encouraged students to learn something about the major they want to study further in advance and if possible, visit the college they like and consult teachers. That will save them much work.

Icey Zou
University of Waterloo
Biochemistry

Found in 1957, University of Waterloo is renowned for its Co-operative education (CO-OP). Icey Zou, who was always favored science research, is now studying Biochemistry.

Icey reckoned self-discipline the most necessary to campus life. “In high school you may putt off homework until deadline but still can finish it, but it is impossible in Universities.” Zou reminded students.

University of Waterloo is the first tertiary institution in Canada has CO-OP. This program allows students to learn and intern at the same time. Although Icey is a freshman, she already started preparing for the CO-OP in senior years.

“I really miss the day in QEA,” she shared her memory with students, “you had good
friends and teachers who care about your life and study. I wish all of you attend your favorite university.

Night was falling. Students get on the school bus and went back. College visiting is coming to an end.
QEA wishes heartfelt those once studied in QEA have a bright future, and wishes prospective graduates could be enrolled in their favorite universities.
