Bella Wang is an independent girl.
“My parents were always very busy and they didn’t spend much time with me, so I learned how to take care of myself from a very young age,” Wang said, smiling.
Wang came to Canada alone. She booked round trip tickets by herself and came to attend a language school in Canada for a month.
“I was the only Chinese girl in my class,” Wang recalls. “I couldn’t speak English fluently, however, I realize I wasn’t alone. My classmates and I talked to one another through body language at first. It was quite an interesting experience.”
Wang was a high school student back in her country, however, she couldn’t bear the pressure, thus she decided to finish her studies abroad and apply for universities in North America.
“High school students in China are under great stress, and I find the studying environment here is much better, where students can choose colleges and programs reasonably.”
Wang was a high-achieving student. She got a grade 7 in IELTS and 1500 in SAT. She also topped the school’s Euclid mathematics competition.
Last year, Wang sent applications to over 20 universities. QEA teachers helped her prepare relevant materials as well as entrance tests and interviews, and also tracked the progress of her application.
“I have received offers from New York University, Northeastern University, University of California, University of Washington and others,” said Wang. Besides SAT and IELTS, having an impressive CV that shows your strengths is also important to improve your chances of being enrolled in such institutions.
During high school, Wang attended the Canada Prime Minister’s Annual Meeting and met the Prime Minister in person. She attended the Signing ceremony of Queen’s Elite Academy International Award, and also visited universities in NU, HK and other cities herself.
As a student representative, Bella Wang had a good conversation with David, the director of Rotman Commerce, on the signing ceremony. “That was a precious opportunity and I was glad to have it,” said Bella Wang.
“I decided to study Finance at New York University,” Wang said, “Finance is one of my favorite subjects and I believe I can learn o lot from practice. One day I will earn myself a spot in this field.”
“Thanks to QEA for helping and encouraging me, thanks to my classmates for accompanying me during these beautiful three years.” Wang said with emotion, “I hope QEA students can cherish high school years, study hard, and live happily.”
